2 way street - powerful methods and techniques to facilitate youth participation in local projects
The training course took place from 25-29 of May 2006 in Oradea city, Romania.
This particular training course was designed to equip youth workers with the knowledge, abilities and skills that they need to involve effectively young people in local projects as well to encourage and assist organizations working with young people to develop an organizational culture and working practices that encourages authentic youth participation and to develop participants’ competence in using the revised European Charter on the Participation of Young People in Local and Regional Life.
The training course brought together 25
participants from 12 different countries of Europe. Participants were representatives from
local/regional authorities and from non-governmental youth
organizations that are active in Council of Europe
countries. As well they were Youth leaders and people in position of responsibility in international non
governmental youth organizations (INGYOs), national youth councils (NYCs), national or local
youth organizations, actively and directly involved in youth
participation projects at local or regional level.
The design of the training course was
based on following modules:
- Youth participation and the stages of participation;
- The framework for participation;
- The steps in the participatory process;
- How to plan and implement workshops that are using Technology of Participation (ToP) method for Strategic Planning, Team Building, Action Planning, etc ;
- Benefits of using ToP method;
In order to support participants
learning process training course preparation team prepared Workbook
and Action Planing guide for Campaign development for the
participants.
The Workbook provided information
about: definition of youth participation, levels of youth
participation, framework of youth participation, how to plan the
campaign for youth participation by using Technology of Participation
(ToP) and Focused conversation, how to facilitate ToP and Focused
conversation method and summary of relevant document who speak about
youth participation.
The Action Planing guide for Campaigns
provided steps which are suggested to take into consideration while
planing a campaign.
The Results of Training course:
participants identify the characters of youth participation
participants identify the levels of youth participation according to R. Hart theory of youth participation;
participants learn how to plan and implement workshops that are using Technology of Participation
participants developed the skills in creating a youth engagement campaign;
participants developed strong partnership between themselves;
