The campaign is aimed to encourage and enable young people to participate in building peaceful societies based on diversity and inclusion, in a spirit of respect, tolerance, and mutual understanding.

Seminar "Architecture of Youth Participation"

The seminar took place from 21-25 April, 2007 in the city of Oradea, Romania. It was designed as know-know exchange seminar for community workers and public servants, who are actively working in the field of youth participation.


Seminar aimed to create steps and tools for designing, implementing and evaluating a community engagement campaign based on the knowledge and experience of community workers and public servants in the public participation projects and community engagement initiatives.


Seminar brought together 19 community worker, youth workers and public servants from 12 different European countries.


The program of the seminar was based on the following elements:

  1. Defining the community engagement (what is the community engagement, the successful factors);

  2. Framework of the community engagement (ladder of participation; principles and context of community engagement);

  3. Designing phases of community engagement campaigns (steps what include the community engagement campaign);

  4. Creating activities for community engagement campaign (activities for designing, implementing and evaluating community engagement campaign);


The facilitator team developed workbook and methods booklet for participants in order to support their learning experience during the seminar.

  • The workbook contained basic detentions which were used during the seminar and a lot of free space dedicated for participants to fill in with their comments.
  • The method booklet contained 47 different methods, which can be used to implement, develop and evaluate different community engagement activities.


The results of the seminar:

  • participants shared knowledge and discussed issues related to youth participation which interested them;

  • participants defined concepts of youth participation, community, benefits of youth participation and challenges of youth participation;

  • participants learned about ladder of youth participation;

  • participants defined the concepts of campaigns and explored different types of campaigns;

  • participants learned how to define vision and values;

  • participants defined steps which needs to be taken in order to implement community engagement campaign;

  • participants analyzed variety methods for community engagement activities;

  • participants created variety of methods for community engagement activities;

  • participants defined activities which needs to be taken after the seminar in order to continue the process.

  • participants created future partnerships with other participants.
